Induction for new Clerks - Face to Face session

Cost: £50.00 or £25.00 with small council bursary

This face-to-face session will include production of lawful agendas, effective minutes, learning legislation for local councils, introduction to accounts, the financial regime and lots of time for questions and answers throughout the session. It is a must for every new clerk or for clerks that have been in post for some time but have never completed this training.

Whole Council Training

We are offering two dates in each of the months of April and June and one in May for councils to express an interest in having a YLCA Officer provide Whole Council Training at a venue of their choice. (The council will be charged for the number of filled seats on the council, whether all councillors attend or not, although as this is training for all of the members of a council, the idea is that everyone comes along to hear the information and guidance, to build better understanding and cohesion within the authority. The dates are provided in the programme below. The three hour session can be held during the day or the evening. To request this training please contact admin@yorkshirelca.gov.uk to get a booking form. Bookings will be taken on a first come, first served basis. Once the booking form is received it is a contract between the Council and YLCA. The cost for the training is £37 per person (councillors or officers, ie clerk) if YLCA has to book a venue, or £32.00 per person if the council provides and pays for a venue. We are also open to smaller councils joining together for this training.

The training session will include:

  • Duties, roles and responsibilities of the Council, Chair, Clerk and RFO
  • Legislative powers and duties
  • Meetings and their management
  • Council business including lawful agendas and minutes
  • Delegation to officers and committees
  • The audit regime
  • Transparency Code
  • The council as an employer
  • Data Protection and the UK GDPR overview
  • Any aspect of local council administration that the council needs us to focus on.

Selby Branch Training

Developing Your Skills (Talking Tables) Training Day

Developing Your Skills (Talking Tables) Training Day, Sponsored by Breakthrough Communications and Blachere Illuminations, to be held at the Bluebell Suite, Dodworth, Barnsley, S75 4LX

Talking tables training is a new style of training for YLCA and will replace our traditional conference this year. 10 tables each with a presenter and around 8 delegates will consider different topics.

Each session will be 50 minutes so you will have the opportunity to visit 6 out of the 10 'talking tables' during the day. A draft programme will be available soon and will be promoted in the White Rose Bulletin. Come along to develop your knowledge and network with colleagues. Refreshments and lunch are included.
