The session is not suitable for clerks of Parish Meetings, however, Deputy Clerks, Locum Clerks and Admin Assistants are welcome to attend. It will include the production of lawful agendas, effective minutes, legislation for local councils (that clerks must know to enable them to do their job properly), introduction to accounts, the financial regime and lots of time for questions and answers throughout the session. It is a must for every new clerk or for clerks that have been in office for some time and need a refresher.

This is a free session and we would encourage all member councils to attend this training session as all councils are employers.

We will be providing updates on the following:

• The right to request changes to hours as well as to work from home, from day one of employment. Employers will have to comply with new statutory requirements to respond to such requests, or risk possible claims at the Employment Tribunal for Constructive Dismissal (without two years service) and discrimination
• Rights for carers to have additional unpaid leave
• Changes to how holiday pay is calculated and paid

To enable councils to respond to these new entitlements and to update their terms and conditions of employment, we are holding a one hour session to provide members with information they need to know.

The session is specifically aimed at new councillors but is also suited to councillors that have done training previously but want to refresh their knowledge. We will look at a wide range of issues including the roles, responsibilities and duties of the Council, a Councillor, the Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer. This session will cover the council's finances generally, look at Proper Practices for management of parish authority funds, consider financial duties. It will also consider budgets and particularly good practice around the monitoring of budgets.

To achieve high performing teams, healthy conflict is necessary. Sometimes teams suffer due to an inability to speak out when needed and conflict is brushed under the carpet. Other times conflict leads to relationships breaking down. This on-line session will share techniques to help you identify ways to work with conflict in a way that leads to healthy relationships with your council teams.

During the session we will cover the following:

• Consider relevant YLCA policies and guidelines that can support you
• Explain why healthy conflict is key to successful teams
• Identify your own productive and destructive tendencies in conflict
• Consider how your preferences might impact on the rest of your team
• Explore ideas to improve how you respond in conflict
