Transparency Code for local Authorities with a turnover exceeding £200,000

This will be a comprehensive session covering the following areas on how to manage grievance and discipline:

  • How to respond to different staff problems, attendees will be given four scenarios covering various problems and will be asked to discuss how they would manage the problem.
  • Who manages formal and informal disciplinary issues, the full council, or a delegated sub-committee?
  • How to understand the benefits of effective informal counselling; to resolve most problems without the need for formal disciplinary action. How to conduct an informal counselling session.
  • Conducting formal disciplinary action – the ACAS guidelines as well as resolving grievances and the legal framework that affects local councils (Localism Act 2011, s28 and Ledbury). We will run through how to determine whether the council can conduct further action in relation to the employee's complaint or if it needs to be referred to the Monitoring Officer at the Principal Authority.
